Unwritten Future — The Tale of the Unfortunate Fly
I made a peculiar discovery today. A gross but comical and intriguing discovery. A discovery that involves a normal unimpressive red grading pen and a normal unimpressive housefly.
While on the computer earlier, something about the pen caught my attention out of the corner of my eye. At first I thought one of my children punched a hole into an eraser with the end of the pen. Then, I thought that somehow some thread ended up in the tip. I stopped just short of picking the thread out with my fingernails when I realized what was in the end of the pen! (*shiver)
A fly!
A fly?!?
No way!
Well that couldn’t happen if you tried!
I recall the pen getting separated from the cap. I’ve had the cap on my dresser for awhile, waiting to find it’s missing mate. I found the pen the other day and capped it.
We have been remodeling our living room, dining room and kitchen. And with the remodel … flies make their way in through open doors and windows. I suppose this guy found his way into inside the cap. And when I capped the pen. Well, unfortunately, the fly was trapped unknowingly. (*yuck!) He apparently attempted an escape, but to no avail.
June 30 – Day 30
We made it! My 8 yr. old daughter and I fulfilled our commitment to a 30 day photo-a-day challenge! Some days were a lot more fun than others (when you are in the mood, you get a little more creative, perhaps?).

June 28 – Day 28
We went out at dusk looking for some purple flowers that we didn’t realize close up in the evening. We had so much fun, though. Our little walk made my daughter uncomfortable because we were “too close to the woods”. But then, we were distracted by the fireflies, which took us back and forth all over the yard — which then made our cat extremely hyper!
………………..
Anyhow, the first image was accidental, but it was my daughter’s pick for the day.

June 21 – Day 21
One more idea checked off of my daughter’s photo-a-day brainstorm list — “Fill Glasses With Water”.
June 20 – Day 20
My daughter did not help with the planning of today’s photo. Well, I didn’t plan it either … I just took it.
I told her, “I took today’s picture without you, but it’s okay because you’re in it”.
To which she inquired, “Were you spying on me?”.
“Kind of. But when you see it, you’ll be okay with it”.
We are neighbors with my mother-in-law. She saw her Nana out in her water garden this afternoon and asked if she could go out and swing with her. When I checked on her by peeking out the window, I knew that it had to be today’s photo. My daughter approved.
I took the photo looking out my kitchen window. The blur in the foreground, if it bothers you, is from little flowers that are displayed on my windowsill.
June 18 – Day 18
………………..
For today’s photo, my daughter wanted to show off her spoon trick and then we had a little fun with Photoshop.

Halfway through our 30-day photo-a-day project.

June 13 – Day 13
………………..
For our 13th photograph of this 13th day of the month … we present to you … 13 items,
chosen by my daughter, that are of personal significance to her.
………………..
………………..
1. Afghan that her Grammy made for her.
2. Swaddling Blanket we used for both kids that she has played with since she began taking care of her dolls.
3. Photo album documenting last year’s elf on a shelf events.
4. Baby ring and baby bracelet.
5. Piggy Bank that her brother designed for her several years ago.
6. Pillow Pet that she got celebrating the last day of school in Kindergarten.
7. “Monk” a gift from her dad that goes with her practically everywhere.
8. Her mom’s childhood stuffed dog that she claimed as her own (and was super psyched when she found out that her second grade teacher has one just like it).
9. BFF necklaces that match her Best Friend, Kierra’s necklaces.
10. Notebook filled with her “isms”. The whole family contributes to this one of a kind journal.
11. A drawing of a Barbie by her dad.
12. When she was about 4, her Papa Rich had to go to the hospital because of Kidney Stones — she gave him her bunny to make him feel better. Her Nana gave it back to her to comfort when her Papa Rich passed away about two years ago.
13. Souvenir from her Nana when we saw The Nutcracker Ballet in Kansas City for the first time last year. Our dear friend Leeanna treated us to a wonderful evening!
June 12 – Day 12

When I’m Gone (The Cup Song)
………………..
My daughter is all about “The Cup Song” right now.
The cup is even going with her to school … recess is planned in advance.

June 7 – Day 7
“Bubbles” was on my daughter’s list of photo-of-the-day ideas. Her favorite images were those that caught the action of her blowing bubbles. My favorite images were those of single bubbles. It is difficult to follow bubbles and focus on the manual settings. I got a few that I was happy with, though.
June 4 – Day 4
My daughter wanted to look ghostly, but she didn’t have much patience today for photography. That … and she didn’t want to be in a room that was too dark. You need fairly low light for this type of photography. She has an idea written out that involves something “glow-in-the-dark”, so I don’t know how that one is going to work.
June 2 – Day 2
Day 2 of our (my 8 year old daughter and my) 30 day — A Photo A Day Challenge.
Her idea for today was for us to take a picture of a tree and make it Black and White on my computer. I let her choose the black and white settings and contrast that she preferred.
